Barge MARIANNE for Sale in French Canals
Authentic Dutch Luxemotor barge, built in 1920 and beautifully converted to a high standard in 2001 into a luxury charter / live aboard and cruising barge. This boat is very well equipped and maintained, and is ideal for a year round luxury cruising home.
1920’s-built Luxemotor hull with recent interior refit combines the pleasure of owning a classic, traditional barge with the confidence of having new systems, modern appliances and a spacious, well-designed layout. Ideal boat for cruising with family and friends, a small charter/hotel barge, or just a great way to live in France year-round.
After two years‘ hard work and four years of delightful cruising on the French waterways we are selling our barge and home, „Marianne“. We bought her at Montbeliard in France in August 1999. She was sound in hull and mechanics but very tired in terms of fit-out and accommodation. So with the able assistance of Brian Allum, the mechanic at Bourgogne Marine, we reshaped the foredeck and superstructure, installed new windows and portholes and then insulated and rebuilt the interior – from new electrical, plumbing and heating systems, to wood floors, three staterooms with ensuite showers and toilets and a chef-friendly galley.
Marianne is now an attractive, comfortable, comprehensively equipped barge/home that carries us along the French waterways at a leisurely pace, allowing us to explore the villages, markets, culture and cuisine of France from a unique perspective. Our family, friends and charter guests especially appreciate the view from the large terrace, where fine weather finds us enjoying wine and barbecues.
The port at Roanne is the current winter mooring for Marianne. Roanne is situated at the southern end of the Roanne-Digoin Canal and some 80kms to the west of Lyon. It is a medium-sized city with all services available and excellent rail connections to Lyon, Paris and elsewhere. There is an airport served by Ryanair some 60kms to the south near St. Etienne.
